Assistant Public Health Laboratory Director
In order to become a California Public Health Laboratory Director, you must have four years experience working in a public health laboratory, with two of those years in a supervisory role. An assistant lab director is a person who has met most of the qualifications listed below and only lacks experience working in a supervisory role. Several local county and municipal public health laboratories provide these positions for future laboratory directors within their laboratories.
Qualifications of an Assistant Public Health Laboratory Director
The candidate should:

Have a relevant doctorate degree in Microbiology or Public Health

Hold a California Public Health Microbiologist (PHM) certificate

American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM) or American Board of Immunology (ABI) or American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB with specialty in Microbiology) eligible or board certified (with priority given for certification)

Have at least 2 yrs clinical or public health lab experience

Have supervisory and/or management experience – (optional, but preferred)
